A big thank-you (and an apology)!

I'm not sure if I've said or not, but I was lucky enough to win not one but two raffles in the Queensland Flood Victims Appeal raffles.  I couldn't believe it, particularly as I don't tend to win much other than Scrabble!

The first prize that a won was a Gypsy Rose layer cake and some coordinating fabric from Jane at Want it Sew it Quilt.  It arrived a good few weeks ago, and I thought that I'd done a big thankyou post to her at the time.  I know that I had put a bit about it in my Grand Plan page, but it doesn't get as much traffic as the main blog.  I now realise that I hadn't done the post and my Grand Plan seems to have plans of its own, and the reference is one of several that seem to have mysteriously disappeared.  So, THANK YOU JANE!!  I'm dreaming up a pair of quilts for my younger nieces with the layer cake as the starting point.  They're sharing a bedroom at the moment, and one's into pink and the other purple, so the Gypsy Rose will be perfect.

The reason for the sudden realisation is that yesterday I received my second prize, a charm pack and quilt patterns  in the post from Rebecca at Chasing Cottons - absolutely fantastic!  I love the  Sherbet Pips charm pack, and whilst pink doesn't usually rate a mention in this house (we've got a definite 'red beige and blue' thing happening) I think that these fabrics will make their way into a quilt destined to break the trend!  The lovely Rebecca also gave me a total of six patterns, rather than the four she had promised, and I've already devoured the instructions for half.  Curilcue Crush looks so great, and Rebecca's instructions make it look so simple that I actually want to have a go at it - curved seams and all (so far I've avoided curves at all costs when I'm patchworking).  I'm also trying to work out whether or not the Schoolboy is too old for castles.

So again, thank you Jane and thank you Rebecca!

Flood Relief Appeal Giveaways

Flood Relief Giveaway of sorts #3: Pink Fairy Skirt

This pink fairy skirt has a fully adjustable and elasticised waist, and would suit a pre-school or primary school aged child. It has a couple of layers of pink net and a pink tulle layer with sparkly silver dots on top. It's soft and wafty with a maximum length of around 40cm.

How this giveaway works:

Fabric Giveaway / Stash Swap

Looking for a some fabric for a project to start the new year?  Tidying up and have some stuff that you've realised that you're just never going to use?  Welcome to the Stash Swap.  The idea is that you publish a Stash Swap post with details of fabric you want to give away, create a link on the Stash Swap page, and both help someone out and clear out your stash at the same time.

Here's the fabric I'm hoping to clear out this month:

I have no idea where this pink background cotton fabric came from!  It's evidently been used for something, as it is L-shaped.  There is a 98cm long section that's the width of the fabric (115cm), with a 60cm long by 54cm wide piece beneath it.  You can have this one with no postage cost at all, as it'll fit into an A4 envelope.

 I think this material has been in my stash longer than any other.  Its a fine suiting fabric, but I'm not sure what it's made of.  I love the feel of it, which is why it has stayed in my stash for at least 15 years even though I'm not into wearing green at all!  It's 148cm wide and 1.6m long.  It'll fit into the smaller size prepaid satchel (which costs $6).

This is some leftover curtain fabric (unlined) from a roman blind I made for a kitchen in a house I moved out of a long time ago!  The main section measures 47cm by the width of the fabric (145cm), plus there are other bits and pieces.  The fabric is 100% cotton, and I think it would be best used as the basis of a quilt, and if I were into 'country' then that's what I'd do with it.  Altogether there are 56 17cm x 16cm "squares", plus several part squares (I have the breakdown of what type of squares there are if you're interested, but in addition to those shown there are other florals, a rooster, bull, plough & sheep - a total of 15 different squares).  Again, I think it'll fit into an A4 sized envelope, so no need to send me any post satchels.

Free fabric from my stash!

 This week in my creative space I've been cleaning up.  I have found three pieces of fabric to kick off my monthly 'stash swap', where I'm offering to give you part of my stash for the cost of postage, and inviting you to swap something from your stash that's been sitting around a long time (see below and separate tab).  In the interests of reducing my fabric store I've also cut all the tulle I have left, and have found that I have enough for five more fairy skirts.  Not sure what I'll do with all of them yet, but for the moment it's a good side project that's helping me avoid thinking about the Christmas list.

I've been doing a bit of blog-surfing via the Kootoyoo site and found 'Designed to a T' - looks like a great site (when I've checked on Mr 2 downstairs I might sneak up and have a bit more of a look...).  Anyway, I've become a follower and really love the Christmas tags Terese is giving away.  I'll be back to check it out  after some art and craft with the toddler!
